Here we have a seemingly incredible example of the 1968 Chevrolet Nova SS with an L48 V8 & 4-speed manual transmission. The Chevy II/Nova was marketed as a small car produced in 5-generations for the 1962-1979 & 1985-1988 model years built on the X-body platform. The Nova was the top model in the Chevy II lineup through 1968. In 1969 it was officially named the Nova for all of the 1969+ years. This example being a 1968 makes it part of the 3rd generation which was produced from 1968 to 1974. In 1968 for the 3rd-generation these models were entirely redesigned with a new style on a longer 111" wheelbase that gave Chevrolet's compacts a chassis that was just 1" shorter than the midsize Chevelle coupe. In 1968 the Super Sport SS was transformed from a simple trim option to a full out new performance package. It was one of the smallest muscle cars making big power.
The seller reportedly acquired this Nova SS from its previous owner in 2022 when the mileage showed roughly 26,500 miles / 42,647 km on the odometer, adding under 700 km since. The previous owner is said to have owned the car for just short of 20 years & had it repainted in its original colour roughly 13 years ago. This Nova SS was reportedly never restored & in great original condition due to the care its been given since day 1 from all owners. The current owner had the vehicle ceramic coated not too long ago. This sharp Nova SS was delivered new in Killeen, Texas on August 2nd, 1968 equipped with rare factory A/C (C60) & the 350 L48 V8 engine. In 2022 & 2023 the seller reportedly had original reproduction leaf springs & full exhaust line put in amounting to over $2,400 USD. It still retains all of its original glass other than the windshield which was replaced under previous ownership. The seller added NOS (New Old Stock) bumperettes under his ownership at a reported cost of $1250 cad.
Something very nice with this Nova SS is its reported full provenance report. A binder full of documents since day 1 comes along with this stunning example. Included is the bill of sale & title certificate out of Texas, the protect-o-plate & build/broadcast sheets. The broadcast sheet is a crucial document that lists all of the features & options of the vehicle as it was originally built. The assembly line workers used it to verify the correct components were installed. Since it was such an important piece of paper, it was later placed in a hidden area of the vehicle to prevent it from being lost, often between the springs & cushion of the rear seats; unfortunately, later on these are often lost when a vehicle is restored - though not with this one!
This Nova SS retains its original rally wheels wrapped in newer period correct redline tires with the original matching full size spare located in the trunk. The L48 engine allows this car to be equipped with a carburetor, chrome air cleaner, chrome valve covers & oil cap, dual exhaust system, special front & rear springs, special underhood insulation, heavy duty battery & starter and heavy duty U-joints. The Z11 tag provides the super sport custom interior with special carpeting, trunk mat, courtesy lighting, front & rear arm rest & bright pedal trim.
It is powered by its original 350ci 5.7L L48 V8 spinning the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. It reportedly runs & drives excellently with no issues. The car now shows 26,907 miles / 43,303 km; TMU Total Mileage Unknown. Please view the video attached to see this awesome Nova SS shift through its gears!
