Here we have a French automotive icon in the 1968 Citroën 2CV Fourgonnette. The 2CV or Deux Chevaux was introduced in 1948 at the Paris Mondial de l'Automobile & served as the nation’s most popular economy car with over 3.8 million units produced until 1990.
Fourgonnette in English would be Truckette. This version offers a versatile cargo area behind the front seats allowing it to be one of the coolest & rarest work trucks out there, especially in North America. It is a very useful truck for tradesmen & delivery workers. It used to also be used for mobile homes!
This example we have here still has its natural patina while at the same time providing modern improvements. The original 425cc H2 engine has reportedly been replaced with a more powerful & reliable 652cc engine. It also features a new galvanized chassis, eliminating the worry of the original chassis which was the common point of issue on these cars. It rides on a dual H-frame chassis with an aircraft-style tube framework overlaid by detachable steel body panels. The cargo area in this example has corrugated steel panels, windows & center-opening dual rear doors. On the exterior we have an advertisement for trout fishing at a lake in Quebec that says "LAC du VIEUX CHÊNE Pêche a la Truite" that is hand painted. On the interior the cabin features seats with patterned cloth cushions matching the upholstery on the doors. The seats are steel-framed.
It is powered by an upgraded 652cc engine spinning the front wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The 2CV features a unique swing arm, fore-aft linked suspension system with inboard front brakes. It shows 48,423 KM on the 5-digit odometer; TMU (Total Mileage Unknown).
