Here we have a fun beach-rod 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle. This Super Beetle was acquired by the seller from Ontario in early 2021 & has added roughly 3,000 km since, driven here & there in the summers. Under previous ownership prior to 2021 it is reported that the floors were replaced along with a yellow respray and service to the brakes & suspension. The body is said to be solid with no holes or rust. The vehicle was acquired by the seller with the intention of it making a fun project with his son to transform it into a rad-rod beach Beetle. The yellow paint is in reported good condition, it has been intentionally sanded & given a "rusted" appearance.
The Beetle, initially known as the Volkswagen Type 1 was produced by Volkswagen from 1938-2003. It is one of the most iconic cars in automotive history, mainly recognized for its distinctive shape. Its production period of 65 years is the longest of any single generation car. It only officially became known as the Beetle in 1968. The design of the Beetle changed very little over its long life but still managed to have over 78,000 subtle updates. In 1972 came a "major" change to the Beetle, with the flat windshield becoming history as it moved onto the curved windshield which this Super Beetle we have here features. The 1600cc engine does not make very much power however with very simple tunes & adjustments they are capable of producing over 90 HP.
It is powered by an air-cooled 1,600cc flat-4 with a single carburetor spinning the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. This Beetle reportedly runs & drives very well with no hiccups. The carburetor is tuned at the beginning of each spring & will be taken care of for the buyer. Other than some driver seat tears & the muffler potentially requiring a replacement the car is ready to go & will make a nice summer driver. It now shows 120,000 km TMU; total mileage unknown.
