Here we have a magnificent top of the ladder 1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde sporting an upgraded engine sourced from a 164S producing more power. This Milano Verde was acquired by the seller in 2020 from a private party in Virginia, USA when it had roughly 162,000 miles / 260,714 km on the odometer; adding roughly 25,000 km since. It is reported that under previous ownership the vehicle had its suspension & brakes overhauled, 16" 10-spoke Sparco matte grey wheels installed, 3-spoke MOMO steering wheel added along with a Kenwood head unit. Under current ownership in the spring of 2023 the original Verde-specific 3.0L V6 was replaced with an upgraded 3.0L V6 unit from an Alfa Romeo 164S. The engine was reportedly rebuilt prior to insertion. The vehicle is said to have been regularly maintained & serviced strictly by Alfa Romeo mechanics in both New York & Montreal.
When it comes to the Milano there were 4 trims: silver, gold, platinum & verde. The bottom 3 trims all drove the same 2.5L V6 with underwhelming performance, while the top-of-the-line Verde featured the 3.0L V6 & a Verde-specific body kit. The 164S placed inside this Milano Verde also features a K&N air filter allowing it to produce in excess of its stock numbers. The reported reason for the engine replacement was not due to a faulty original engine but for performance, hence the previously upgraded suspension to an RS-R racing setup, GiroDisc brake system, Stebro exhaust with a MagnaFlow muffler and Sparco wheels paired with performance tires. All is said to be in working order on this car both mechanically & electrically other than the cruise control, which is a common fault for these.
The Alfa Romeo Milano is one of the most underrated sport sedans of the '80s. It boasts Italian styling, sporty handling, a manual transmission, and, in this case, a serious boost in performance abilities. In Europe it is known as the "75", the Milano made its USA debut for 1987 as an alternative to the BMW 3-Series. In 1988 the flagship Verde model came about, benefitting from a larger 3.0L version of the standard Milano's 2.5L V6. In 1989 sales ended although continued in Europe until 1992. Alfa Romeo didn't release another RWD sedan until the current-generation Giulia arrived in 2017.
It is powered by a 3.0L V6 164S sourced engine which sports a different cam profile, a less restrictive exhaust & an increase in compression (10.0:1 rather than the standard 9.5:1). It spins the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission. The vehicle is also said to be rust free. This Verde can be enjoyed on both the street & the track. It now shows 177,431 miles / 285,548 km on the body while the rebuilt 164S unit reportedly has ~2000 miles on it. It is New York plated & titled. It is currently located in Laval, QC.
