Here we have a LHD MK IV 1979 Austin Mini 4-speed. The MINI is a small 2-door 4-seat car produced by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 to 2000. In 1999 the Mini was voted the 2nd-most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T & ahead of the Citroën DS and Volkswagen Beetle. It features a space-saving transverse engine & front-wheel drive layout to allow for 80% of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers & luggage. From 1959 to 2000 the MINI spanned 7 generations from the MK I to the MK VII before its acquisition by BMW. This Mark IV was introduced in 1976 & produced until 1983 under British Leyland. It added a front rubber-mounted subframe with single tower bolts & the rear frame had larger bushings; meant to improve the car's mechanical refinement & to reduce noise levels. The seller acquired this Mini in 2019 when it showed roughly 31,070 miles / 50,000 km; adding 5,000 miles / 8,000 km since. Prior to 2009 under previous ownership the vehicle was reportedly used as a race car, it had a full roll cage which was later removed for road use. The next owner from 2009-2019 acquired the vehicle with aspirations of a total restoration, however never got around to it & in turn the vehicle sat in storage for a decade. The current owner/seller acquired the vehicle & as a long-time Mini mechanic, got straight to work on it. The vehicle is a "rolling project"; it is reportedly in perfect running condition with zero mechanical issues of any kind. The negatives which give it the project title, are strictly body & aesthetics. In 2020 the seller painted it in satin silver, however it is starting to bubble on the A-panel & there are rust holes present underneath. The vehicle has many new parts including brakes, a functioning choke cable, a whole new ignition switch & more. It also features modifications such as an adjustable suspension system, Cooper S disc brakes, BMW Mini front & rear seats and more. The differential was also replaced with a 3:1 to accomodate highway cruising. It is powered by a transverse-mounted 998cc inline-4 spinning the front wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. All is in working order, however with some TLC over the winter this Austin Mini could come out looking spectacular in the spring. It now shows 58,000 km on the odometer; TMU Total Mileage Unknown. - 4-speed manual transmission - Satin silver over black & red interior - 3-spoke steering wheel - JVC head unit with CD - Wood veneer - Headlight grilles - Single-exit exhaust - 10" alloy wheels - 165/70 R10 72H Falken FK-07E tires - Power: + 38 HP & 52 Lb-Ft of Torque - Curb Weight: ~ 1400 lbs
