Here we have a W126 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300SD TurboDiesel in a striking Apricot Orange (BD-482). The W126 model was produced from 1979-1992. In the 1970's Mercedes-Benz started to become leaders in engineering & innovation and they put this work into the W126. It was with the W126 model where the S-Class really started to become known as a top tier luxury sedan & the flagship for Mercedes-Benz. Traction Control was introduced in it along with seat-belt pre-tensioners, driver & passenger airbags and more.
The 300SD was offered in North America between 1980-1985. The powertrains in these diesel W126's are bulletproof just like almost all other classic Mercedes-Benz Diesel engines. These can do over 250,000 miles before any issue starts to arise if any, this example has only 232,000 km (roughly 144,000 miles); TMU. There are many examples scattered across North America with over 1 million miles. Mercedes-Benz proudly shows "High Mileage Awards" with this engine.
In January of 2021 the engine was taken out and sent to a diesel specialized shop. They rebuilt the engine (all invoices available) and sent the engine back on a skid. It was then all hooked all up and the engine does start & run. It was rebuilt by "Diesel-Bec", Quebec's highly regarded diesel engine rebuilding company. They do not accept engines in cars, only on a skid & sent back on a skid.
With a freshly rebuilt engine this one has a lot of extra life in it. There are many invoices for what has been done recently amounting to over $13,000, also mentioned below in the Recent Service History section. Invoices can be shown upon request. The large majority of the work mechanically has been done in the last 7 years. The transmission was also recently fixed in 2022 as vacuum hoses needed attention.
The first 30 photos are of the vehicle right now in its current completed state. The photos following are from late summer 2021 after the engine was rebuilt. Attached in the gallery is a photo of the LastVIN per Mercedes-Benz.
