Here we have a 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL500. The SL-class is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light". Initially, the 300 SL was a racing sports car built in 1952 with no intention of developing a street version. In 1954 an American importer suggested the street version for wealthy sports car enthusiasts in America where the market was booming for personal luxury cars. This 5th-generation R230 of the SL was around from 2001-2011. The SL500 offers the best of both worlds: a timeless design that’s both luxurious & sporty, as the 5.0L V8 pushes out over 300 horsepower. Whether you’re cruising with the top down on a sunny day or enjoying the smooth ride with the top up, the SL500 is a joy to drive.
This SL500 is currently owned by a senior citizen who no longer drives & is the 4th owner. It was acquired in 2022 from the long-time 17-year 3rd-owner. In December of 2015 the original engine was replaced by Euromotors Ltd. with a used engine that reportedly had 50,000 km on it. Between this time & May of 2016, the previous owner added roughly 2,825 km & installed all new brakes. It is reported that not too long after, the car was put into storage due to an ABC suspension issue & remained in storage until 2022 when the current owner acquired it. The current owner added a BC Racing coil over suspension to move on from the problematic ABC suspension. Other recent service includes a new alternator, batteries, fresh oil change, new power steering pump & hydraulic lines.
It features a 'Vario Roof' retractable hardtop along with a parktronic system, COMAND navigation system including bluetooth, a premium Bose sound system & more. The car is said to be in great condition for the mileage that is on the body & it has no rust anywhere. It was reportedly never winter driven or smoked in & all is in working order. It is powered by an M113 5.0L V8 engine spinning the rear wheels through a 7-speed automatic transmission. The car now shows 203,188 miles / 327,000 km on the odometer. A CarFax is provided & shows an accident reported in 2011 that says "vehicle was not damaged", the seller states he was told by the previous owner it was only a scratch which was professionally repaired.
