Here we have a Mark VI 1991 Rover Mini 4-speed presented in the iconic Red with white roof & bonnet stripes. The MINI is a small 2-door 4-seat car produced by the British Motor Corporation from 1959 to 2000. In 1999 the Mini was voted the 2nd-most influential car of the 20th century, behind the Ford Model T & ahead of the Citroën DS and Volkswagen Beetle. It features a space-saving transverse engine & front-wheel drive layout to allow for 80% of the area of the car's floorpan to be used for passengers & luggage. From 1959 to 2000 the MINI spanned 7 generations from the MK I to the MK VII before its acquisition by BMW.
The seller acquired this MKVI Mini in February 2013 from Mini Richmond in British Columbia. It has reportedly been driven roughly 1865 miles / 3000 km per summer in the last 11 years, adding roughly 20,500 miles / 33,000 km since; true mileage is unknown as the odometer has not functioned since the car was acquired by the seller. Under previous ownership by Mini Richmond it sat pretty in the showroom since 2009 - never for sale but for show & promotional use. An invoice included in the folder of documents accompanied with the vehicle shows MINI Richmond acquired it from Motor Max used cars in Burnaby, BC in 2009. The Motor Max dealership is understood to be the party that imported the vehicle prior to 2009.
At some point prior to 2009 the vehicle underwent a resto-mod where they added some MK I Mini components. This was done by swapping the interior for an MK I Cooper 2-tone interior sourced from Newton Commercial, the MK I moustache grille was added along with the wing mirrors & Cooper S badging in the rear which has been removed by the current owner & replaced with Mini Special badging (to ensure the car is not mis-represented as an Mk 1 or II Cooper S). While the front end of the vehicle was modified to replicate an MK I, the rear was left un-touched. It was also re-painted at the time of the resto-mod in the original Modena red. It previously had a Canadian flag on the roof which was replaced by the seller with a Nova Scotia flag; it is a decal sticker & can be removed for the buyer. The motor may have been rebuilt in the past however there is no confirmation, the seller claims it has good compression & in overall great shape, making a nice driver.
The seller removed the single carburetor & added dual SU carbs, an electronic ignition, a Sony AM/FM deck with CD, a light bar, 2 clear driving lights, 2 clear fog lights & installed a new steering rack. With the dual carburetor addition, the exhaust & intake manifolds were replaced to accommodate the two carbs & improve exhaust flow. From a side exit single exhaust, it was changed to a center exhaust outlet. The vehicle had A/C but was removed by the seller, it will be included & will only require a re-charge if reinstalled. A 12-volt socket was also installed to charge devices, operate Sirius XM, etc... It was done by running a wire from the battery to an accessory fuse box in the trunk - it was reportedly installed in a way that can be easily removed, as the outlet is not bolted in anywhere.
The history of the vehicle is ultimately unconfirmed however the seller was reportedly told by sales at MINI Richmond that he understood it started its journey in Belgium before going to Japan & ultimately here in Canada at some point in the 2000's. In the interior of the Mini there is a sticker on the headliner from a gathering in Japan, which may support the claim along with a Japanese language label on a sun visor. The seller acquired the vehicle with a very rare set of 7" wide tires for the 12" rims, unfortunately one got a flat too close to the side-wall & could not be repaired. After an unsuccessful long & painful search for a replacement everywhere including Europe, the seller opted to replace all 4 with the Yokohama A008's; the primary touring tire used on classic Mini's. The 3, 7" wide tires are included.
It is powered by a 998cc Inline-4 spinning the front wheels through a 4-speed manual transaxle. The engine is now packing an extra punch from the dual carburetors. The odometer has not been in working order since before the seller's acquisition, the total mileage is unknown. The seller would like to note that it is a good honest solid driver with no rust.
