Here we have this very special "Disco" Series II TD5. Special because it is a very rare 5-speed Turbo Diesel not originally sold here in North America. We only received the V8 6-speed automatic version which does not have the very best rep. This example was imported from France.
This is part of the 1st generation, but is the Series II (the first facelift for the model) & was produced from 1998-2004. Production for the Discovery model commenced in 1989 & is still around today in its 5th generation. One can say that it is the "Disco" that really got rugged SUV's going because it was the first to market a true off-road capable family car.
It is powered by the updated 2495cc TurboDiesel in-line direct-injected straight-5 engine. This newer electronically managed engine was smoother & in turn produced more usable torque at lower revs.
