Here we have the beautiful 1974 Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce in its classic Alfa Red paint. What makes this example great is it isn't exactly a collector's vehicle due to all the upgrades, but more of an opportunity to own a classic vehicle with many modern & upgraded parts allowing it to be a driver. It left the factory in Milan in July, 1974. This GTV 2000 is an excellent example of a highly desirable classic Italian car. The 1974 GTV 2000 is the final variant of the classic Gulia GT/Sprint Coupe originally produced in 1963. The models evolved over roughly 12 years of production with several variants that saw increasing engine size & improved performance. This example is actually a 1973, but is listed as a 1974 model which was the final year of production for North America. Performance features such as all aluminium blocks, double overhead cams, 5-speed transmissions & 4-wheel disc brakes were only available on ultra-high end cars such as Ferraris at the time. This Alfa was hanging around at the top of the pack when compared to similar cars of the era.
This example is an original Canadian car, having spent most of its life in & around the Montreal, QC area. It was then purchased by a well known Oakville, ON based Alfisti in 2003. It underwent a full bare metal restoration in 2015/2016 & has a number of upgrades including a rebuilt & upgraded engine, rebuilt transmission & a number of suspension upgrades as well (full list of mechanical upgrades listed below). It shows just 52,421 miles / 84,364 km but is being sold TMU (total mileage unknown).
This GTV 2000 was originally Aubergine over tan; it was then repainted white over red in the ‘90s. It is now classic Alfa red over black leather, as of the restoration in 2016. Note: The registration on the car shows the colour as white for when it was first registered in Ontario in 2003; when it was in fact white.
With the larger 2.0L engine & its original Spica mechanical fuel-injection, the GTV 2000 was originally rated at roughly 130 BHP which moved the less than 1100 kg car along swiftly. This example, with its extensive engine upgrades is putting-out closer to 150 BHP & the added performance is noticeable says the seller; especially at 3500 RPM when the twin-weber (45 DCOE) carburetors are at full throttle. This car will happily cruise at modern highway speeds & is an absolute blast to drive on a twisty road.
In the fall of 2015 the car began a back to bare metal repaint. All rusted bodywork was replaced with new panels from Classic Alfa & some pieces were fabricated in house. It was painted Alfa Red (501). A new windshield, headliner, rear window shelf & new dashboard wood veneer was installed. New Alfaholics 15” GTA Wheels with Yokohama Neova AD08R 195/55 R15 tires were installed. The car was picked up from the body shop in June of 2016, which is when the engine & transmission were re-installed. From July 2016 until July 2020, when the car was purchased by the current owner, it was driven minimally. Since 2020 the car has been driven approximately 4000 kms & serviced regularly.
The car is in excellent condition & has been lovingly cared for all along. It has just been serviced after winter storage & is ready for its new owner. The reason for the sale is the current owner has a rare opportunity to purchase a newer sports car & has limited space in the garage. It is important to note that this isn't exactly a collector's vehicle due to all the upgrades, but more of an opportunity to own a classic vehicle with many modern & upgraded parts allowing it to be a driver. It is powered by the 2.0L twin-cam inline-4 spinning the rear wheels through the 5-speed manual transmission.
