Here we have a 1962 Fiat 500 Nuova D. The Fiat 500 is a city car that was manufactured by Fiat Automobiles from 1957 to 1975. In 1936 Fiat released a front engine "Topolino" economy car. In 1949 it resumed production as the 500C with revised front & rear bodywork to meet post-war market demands. In 1957 the Nuova was introduced as the successor to the Topolino as an inexpensive & practical small car. It was produced in a few different variations ranging from a semi-convertible to a panel van. The Nuova D arrived in 1960 replacing the Nuova & was produced until 1965. The D looks very similar to the Nuova with just 2 key differences. The 1st being the engine size, the D features an uprated 499cc engine producing 17 bhp, compared to 13. The 2nd is the roof, the D roof does not fold back as far as on the Nuova, though it was also available as the "Transformable" with the same roof as the Nuova. The D also features suicide doors. In New Zealand the 500 D was sold as the Fiat "Bambina", a name that is still in use to describe the car. The seller acquired this 500 Nuova D in September of 2023 from the previous owner who reportedly had it for over 10 years. The previous owner originally acquired the vehicle in Milan, Italy. He then moved to England where he brought the car with him & later imported it to into British Columbia, Canada. The same previous owner reportedly then moved to Australia & wished to continue the trend of bringing it with him, although was unable & this is where the current owner comes in. It was reportedly restored under previous ownership including a repaint & the interior reupholstered. The vehicle is said to be in good overall condition. It runs & drives well & all is in reported proper working order. It is powered by a rear-mounted air-cooled 499cc inline-twin that spins the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission.
